Heide Hinrichs is an artist living and working in Brussels. She currently teaches at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where she completed a two-year postgraduate program (HISK) in 2006. She also studied at the KHK Kassel and under Ulrike Grossarth at the HfBK Dresden. Following her solo exhibitions, Borrowed Tails (curated by Marisa Sanchez) at the Seattle Art Museum in 2010, and Echoes (curated by Susanne Weiß) at the Heidelberger Kunstverein in 2012, she was awarded the Villa Romana Fellowship for 2013. In 2014, she was a fellow at the MMCA Seoul International Residency Program, where she continued work on her long-term, ongoing project silent sisters / stille schwestern, a translation in text and art works in conversation with Theresa Hak Kyung Cha's book, DICTEE.

Text

Artist statement

My artistic process is a search for an infinitive form of the object.  Concepts are not executed upon materials, but mediated from their histories and sensual qualities.  In an installation, the relationship between objects, and between objects and viewers, generates motion; nothing is fixed or permanent, even when it appears solidly made.  I collect materials and transfer them towards a new identity.  By listening closely, I intend to set them free.  I believe in the environment mindfully formed by gesture and suggestion.
